Torline’s Leave Memorable Legacy to Friends of Shawe and Pope John
As an organization, “Friends of Shawe and Pope John” are always honored to receive Legacy Gifts from our supporters. We honor a fantastic couple who gave so much of their lives to Shawe and Pope John. Charles and Martha Torline, both graduates of the Shawe Class of 1956, dedicated their lives to their family, friends, and Prince of Peace Church and Schools. Charles and Martha were both members of the first graduating class at Shawe Memorial, and both felt strongly about providing their children with Catholic Education as all of their children attended Pope John and Shawe. Charles and Martha also saw several grandchildren and even two great-grandchildren walk the halls of Pope John and Shawe!
Martha, who passed away in 2022, and her husband Charles, who passed away in 2023, had gifted “Friends of Shawe and Pope John” over $66,000 through stock shares, investments, and IRAs.
The Charles and Martha Torline Scholarship will be presented in their honor. The scholarship will include a $1,500 scholarship to a graduating Senior furthering their education via a trade school or nursing.
The Torlines, along with many other families and supporters, chose long ago to dedicate their lives to helping our Catholic schools thrive with their volunteering, support, and setting up financial gifts in the event they pass away. It is dedication like this that “Friends of Shawe and Pope John” thrives on. The funds and gifts we receive from our dedicated supporters help “Friends of Shawe and Pope John” provide financial support for Prince of Peace Catholic Schools. Gifts from “Friends” to the schools are provided every year to help with big projects or the operating budget for our schools. Gifts like these ensure Catholic Education will last a lifetime in Jefferson County. We appreciate Charles and Martha and thank them and their family for thinking of “Friends of Shawe and Pope John” in such a fantastic way.
Because Friends of Shawe and Pope John Schools, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service, as well as a fully integrated public charity under section 509(a)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, all gifts are tax-deductible.
